LEGEND HOWARD TATE TO RELEASE
SCORCHING HOT “BLUE
DAY” ALBUM ON EVIDENCE LABEL AUGUST 12
PHILADELPHIA, PA (June 30, 2008) – With the August 12
release of “Blue Day” from Evidence Music, Howard Tate –
whose 1967 seminal R&B masterpiece, “Get It While You Can,”
created a cult of followers who’ve swooned for 40 years over
his rare and smoky falsetto vocals – has nailed down his
place in history as one of the greatest blues and soul
singers of all time.
“Blue Day” is a
righteous return toTate’s roots as blues singer, balladeer
and master of R&B. Highlights of the album include a title
track that rips into the blues traditions of John Lee Hooker
and ZZ Top; an ode to Amy Winehouse called “Miss Beehive;
“Buried Treasure,” featuring a scorching lead guitar melded
hand-in-glove to Tate’s vocals; and “Improvising,” written
specifically for Tate and his approach to the music
business.
“’Blue Day’ is the kind of
album I’ve been wanting to record for more than three
decades,” said Tate. “It was a team effort, and we
assembled the right team to complement my vocals for
this album.”
Nashville-based Jon Tiven, who’s worked on albums for Wilson
Pickett, Betty Harris and Garnet Mimms, produced “Blue Day.”
He wrote most of the 15 tunes on the album and performs on
guitar, saxophone and Hammond organ.
Steve Cropper of the Blues
Brothers Band and Stax Records, with Felix Cavaliere of the
Young Rascals, upped the ante by contributing songwriting
and performing talent on a rollicking, breezy, big-band
blues tune called “First Class.”
The worldwide release for
“Blue Day” is August 12, 2008.
Tate and his band have
scheduled two upcoming live shows, on Sept. 18, 2008, at The
Slipper Room, 167 Orchard St, New York, NY, (212) 253-7246;
and Oct. 10-12, at The Richmond Folk Festival, Richmond VA,
(804) 788-6466.
